Restoring lost tooth tissue, aesthetics and function and ensuring biological compatibility are among the goals of dentistry. With its tissue-friendly nature and suitable physical properties, porcelain is one of the most widely used restorative materials. However, metal-supported porcelain, developed to strengthen porcelain's physical properties, does not offer sufficient aesthetics and biocompatibility because of its metal substructure. For these reasons, metal-free porcelain systems were developed.
Although mostly preferred for restorations in the smile line, they are also used for crowns and bridges in the back teeth.
Apart from orthodontic treatment, diastemas between the teeth can also be closed with porcelain laminates and metal-free crowns. Pressure and bluish discoloration of the gums caused by previously placed metal-supported porcelain crowns can be eliminated by replacing them with metal-free porcelain crowns.
